It’s been a long road, but it’s time to say hello to longer days! After a long run of early sunsets, there’s a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, as Miami’s first 8 p.m. sunset of the year will be taking place this week.
Those of us who are looking forward to more light-filled days can breathe a sigh of relief, especially after it seems like sunsets crept up on us faster than ever this winter. According to data from Timeanddate.com, the sun will go down at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 in the Magic City. On that day, the sun will rise at 6:34 a.m.
Looking ahead to the future, sunset will not be before 8 p.m. until August 2024.
While you can count on the sun to keep shining a little later into the evenings, be sure to make the most of these late sunsets by finding a panoramic spot to take in the views, or a rooftop restaurant overlooking the skyline. After all, there’s nothing more beautiful than watching the sun go down over our iconic city!
And if you’re longing for even more daylight, the summer solstice (the longest day of the year) will usher in the season on June 20! That day, the sun will rise at 6:30 a.m. and set at 8:15 p.m. Miami will see three hours and 13 minutes longer of daylight than the December solstice.
