Willy Chirino is celebrating 50 years in the music industry and to honor the milestone, HistoryMiami Museum is hosting an outstanding exhibit delving into the Cuban-American singer’s illustrious career.
Presented by Leon Medical Centers, this exhibit, titled Willy Chirino: 50 Years of Music, will take visitors through five decades of the Cuban-American singer’s iconic awards, archival images, videos, concert attire and other personal items.

Visitors will be brought face-to-face with the original handwritten lyrics to his two iconic hits, Soy and Nuestro Día, and his first guitar upon his arrival to the U.S., among other items.
Documenting the inspiring life of Chirino, who was instrumental in the creation of the 1970s Miami Sound and is considered an icon of the community, the exhibit is not to be missed! He arrived in the U.S. in 1960 as part of Operation Pedro Pan, has recorded dozens of albums and won multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards.
According to the museum, “The exhibit pays tribute to a life and musical career that spans generations and reflects Miami’s rich and complex history.”
“I am truly overwhelmed by the events that have been organized to celebrate my 50 years in the music industry, but none is more special to me than this exhibit at the HistoryMiami Museum, an institution that highlights Miami stories,” the award-winning artist said in a release. “I always say that Cuba saw my birth, but Miami saw my growth. I am a proud Miamian and, as such, I could not be more honored to celebrate with my own.”
This isn’t the only way the city is commemorating the artist’s impressive 50-year career. In October, a large mural of him with a Cuban flag was unveiled on Calle Ocho, between 18th and 19th avenues, in the heart of Little Havana. Painted by Chilean artist Alexandra Seda, the tribute stands 60 feet tall and 55 feet wide.
