It seems like there’s always a wild story coming out of a Florida airport. Just last year, a four-foot boa constrictor was found in a passenger’s bag at Tampa International Airport that they claimed was their “emotional support pet.” And for one case at Miami International Airport late last month, people just don’t stop snake-ing around.
According to a post on X by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a bag of snakes was found hidden in a passenger’s pants at checkpoint on April 26. The post included two images that show two small snakes who were hidden in a camouflage-colored bag.
TSA officers alerted U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Miami-Dade Police for assistance. The snakes were then safely turned over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
In an interview with The Independent, a TSA spokesman said the passenger was attempting to head to an international flight, but had “basically admitted there were snakes in his pants” when the alarms had sounded. The alarms flagged an “anomaly in the groin area” and when the passenger was taken for a pat-down, he admitted to hiding the reptiles.
The man was subsequently forbidden to board his flight, the spokesperson told the British publication, adding that such incidents were not “commonplace.” We guess you can say there were almost Snakes on a Plane!
TSA also shared images of the snakes to their Instagram, stating, “We’d never want you to scale back on your asp-irations of traveling with pets, but would like to slither in this small bite of information. Never attempt to play hide a pet in your luggage, or on your person, and always rattle out an answer with your airline about what kind of pets they’ll allow.”
