Tacos with a side of scorpion shots anyone?
Mayami Mexicantina & Bar, the latest addition to Wyndwood’s bustling restaurant scene, is kicking things up a notch with a slew of rather unusual drinks. With endless traditionally Mexican offerings (we’ll get to that in a sec), Mayami’s extensive drinks menu also includes show-stopping, bug-infused shots.
Yup, you read that right, Mayami actually offers several different kinds of Mezcal including four insect-infused ones ($11/shot). Besides the more traditional Mago Maguey shot infused with maguey worms and herbs, the Wynwood restaurant also offers its Escorpión Real with scorpion and spices, a Noisy Cricket one with peaches and (you guessed it) crickets and an Ant Yemayma one with ants and smoked maple.
But if you’re not particularly insect-inclined — and trust us we totally understand you– Mayami still has tons of cocktails on offer. These include the Maya Colada ($13) made with Grey Goose, avocado juice, pineapple juice, coconut cream, and shredded coconut; the Red Desert ($13) with mezcal (no bugs involved) with eucalyptus honey syrup, orange juice and red wine; and the Cazuela Tequilera ($40) made with tequila, exotic citrics, botanical selection, Grapefruit Squirt and Three Chile Syrup, perfect for a large group.
If you’re looking to snack on something, Mayami’s menu features a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes like guacalote ($12) with avocado, corn and queso fresco as well as its unmissable tacos with options like carnitas de salmon ($5) and puerco adobado ($5)
The 10,000-squared-foot Wynwood local comes with Mayan-inspired architecture and décor that give us major Tulum vibes all the way from its fancy cocktails to the glowing red lights and party atmosphere, which are perfect for a fun yet safe and socially-distant night out.
So what do you say? Will you kick a scorpion shot back with your friends at Mayami?
