Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on Monday, January 19 this year, opening up the day to learn, give back and celebrate the Civil Rights leader. Miami, a city he spent a lot of time in, is home to many events, celebrations and volunteer opportunities. There are many ways to participate in the momentous day, from a celebratory parade to service projects.
Here are the many ways you can celebrate Martin Luther King Day in Miami:

Liberty City’s famed MLK Day Parade, running along NW 54th Street from 10th to 32nd Avenue, will once again commemorate the eight-mile route Dr. King frequently traveled during his time in Miami. The parade is comprised of high school marching bands, dance and drill teams, cheerleaders and community leaders. This is one of the country’s oldest and largest MLK celebrations, drawing crowds of more than 500,000 in years past. It all begins at 11 a.m.
Head to the Homestead/Florida City Community Breakfast
Honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King at a free annual community breakfast at the Phichol Williams Community Center. This year’s gathering will be themed “Mentoring the Dream – In the Deep South,” highlighting his enduring influence on mentorship, leadership development and the shared responsibility to continue building pathways of opportunity for future generations. Reservation to the breakfast is required.
Get hands on with an MLK Day Service Project
If you’re looking to give back to the community, whether it’s gardening or painting, make an impact with United Way Miami this year. This event reminds us that collective service is a vital tool for fostering justice and compassion. Contact events@unitedwaymiami.org to get involved.
And join Virginia Key Beach Park for an MLK Day of Service
From a beach cleanup to trail maintenance and a Civil Rights Tour, you can also join Historic Virginia Key Beach Park! Established as Miami’s “Colored Only Beach” in 1945, have a meaningful Martin Luther King Day of Service as you work hand-in-hand to make a difference. You must apply to volunteer.
Celebrate with your kids at Miami Children’s Museum

Families and Miami’s youngest are invited to spend a meaningful day at the museum to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through storytelling, creativity and reflection. They’ll have a special MLK Storytime, collaborative “I Have a Dream” art station where kids can add their hopes to a shared sky and an activity designing message-driven T-shirts that encourage kindness, fairness and hope.
Celebrate at B.Lee’s MLK Day Party
Keep the energy going this holiday with B. Lee’s annual bash at Historic Overtown. The 21+ event transforms The Urban into a hub of R&B and Hip-Hop, offering a space to toast to Dr. King’s legacy with good music and good company. There will be plenty of screens to catch the 2026 College Football National Championship and VIP sections are available.
