South Florida is officially in summer mode, with plenty of rainy days once second and scorching hot days the next. This week, we’ll see days in the latter as a heat advisory is in effect for South Florida, including Miami-Dade, Broward and the Keys. The advisory will kick in at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, and last until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 4.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), temperatures will approach the mid to upper 90s across the region, with feels-like temperatures in the triple digits.
“Peak heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees expected Wednesday and Thursday afternoons,” the forecast reads.
And although temperatures will decrease Wednesday night going into Thursday, the NWS says they will “likely not drop below 90 degrees for portions of the east coast metro.”
Heat safety
In the event of excessive heat, the NWS and county officials advise the public to take extra precautions. Stay indoors when possible and be sure to hydrate, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothes, check up on relatives and neighbors and be sure to avoid strenuous work or activities outdoors during the hottest hours of the day. It’s important to watch out for signs of heat-related illnesses and seek medical attention when there are symptoms. For more on how to beat the heat, visit miamidade.gov/heat.
