After portions of South Florida have been left with flooded streets, floating cars, canceled flights and more than a foot of rainfall this week, a flood watch remains in effect for the region through 8 p.m. Friday. This includes Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers and Naples.
As if relentless rain hasn’t been enough, more rain is in the forecast for South Florida today, with flash flooding possible once again especially across areas that experienced flooding earlier this week, according to the National Weather Service.
“Rainfall amounts of 8 to 14 inches with isolated amounts up to 20 inches have fallen over portions of South Florida since Tuesday morning,” Friday’s update reads. “Additional amounts of 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are forecast through Friday with locally higher amounts possible.”
So while South Florida won’t be seeing as much rain as it did earlier in the week, the areas that still haven’t had time to recover from the flooding could be impacted.
A possibility of scattered thunderstorms are in today’s forecast, with the strongest thunderstorms able to contain heavy downpours and gusty winds. Over the weekend and into next week, scattered to numerous showers could be possible.
