Little Havana’s popular Cafe La Trova has made it to the World’s 50 Best Bar list for the second year in a row and this time around it’s in the top 30!
Cafe La Trova sky-rocketed from 70th place in 2020 to number 28 in 2021 and owners award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein, mixologist Julio Cabrera and restaurateur David Martinez flew over to London to receive the price on Tuesday Night.
“Honored to announce that Cafe La Trova is #28 Bar in the world. So proud!! Thanks to all our staff and the Miami bartender community,” reads the Instagram post announcing the award.
The World’s 50 Best Bars list is a coveted one because its awarded by expert mixologists and bartenders from around the world. Bars cannot apply to appear on the list and any bar from around the world is eligible. Offering a stellar service and experience is the only criteria for making it on the list.
As for Cafe La Trova, World’s 50 Best Bars highlighted the famous Cuban establishment as the mecca for Cuban bar culture praising its ‘cantinero’ style of bartending, classic cocktails and lively atmosphere.
” Handsomely uniformed bartenders still ‘throw’ classic drinks, like the Hotel Nacional, through the air from tin to glass. Daiquiri Clásicos and Periodistas are theatrically shaken. And, when the nightly live band strikes up, the cantineros behind the bar pull out maracas to provide backup percussion,” reads the entry.
The organization also praised Bernstein’s spectacular cuisine for rounding up the experience with “an authentic menu of island favorites.” You can read the full entry here.
But Café La Trova wasn’t the only Miami bar to make it on to the list this year. Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Co. made it to the award’s extended World’s 100 Best Bar list coming in at number 89. As for the first place, London’s The Connaught took it again this year… But who needs to go to London when we’ve got our very own award-winning bar serving stellar mojitos and delightful Cuban music right here in the 305?!
