This Colombian Spot in Upper Buena Vista Serves Mouthwatering Frozen Treats

Raspadilla, granizado, raspado, piragua, cholado…Call it what you will, but one thing is for sure and is that there’s nothing quite as refreshing as a cup of absolute frozen goodness to help combat the sticky Miami heat. And when they look as good as Amazonica’s cholados do…well let’s just say we’re glad Miami’s all-year-round hot weather gives us the perfect excuse to grab one every single day!

Located in Upper Buena Vista, Amazonica specializes in delivering incredible Colombian cholados along with some other delicious Colombian treats. Pero first, let’s focus on these frosty, frozen, decadent, heavenly cups of goodness.

If you’re still not sure what cholados are, they’re basically a mix between an icee, shaved ice and a smoothie — Cubans call it a granizado and Venezuelans a raspado.

At Amazonica, they make theirs using shaved ice and a 100% natural fruit base, stacking them up with other yummy treats like Galleta Maria, arequipe, granola and diced up fruit. Packed full of tropical sabor, their menu features an option for everyone from the sweeter “Guava Maria” cholado featuring a guava puree base, Maria cookies, vanilla ice cream, strawberry, guava squares and arequipe, to the more refreshing “Tropicality” made with a lychee+kiwi puree and topped with fresh kiwi, pineapple, lychee, green apple and mint.

Just a heads up though, whatever suits your mood, you’ll still have a really hard time choosing your favorite flavor, because Amazonica’s cholados are so incredibly pretty and appetizing you’ll want to try them all!

Amazonica also offers Colombian obleas, crispy wafer sandwiches filled with deliciously gooey arequipe and other heavenly ingredients which make it the perfect snack for anyone looking to indulge their sweet tooth. Their oblea flavors also include creative twists on the classic including a “Krispie Fluff” oblea with white chocolate, rice krispies, marshmallow fluff, whipped cream and mini marshmallows and a “Salted Caramel” oblea with cashews and crushed pretzels, as well as other wacky creations. Deliciosas!

And did we mention their Upper Buena Vista spot is absolutely gorgeous? The shop gives off major tropical vibes and is the perfect spot in which to chill and relax with friends while enjoying some well-deserved cholados. Not to mention it makes for the perfect photo op!

Amazonica has locations in Upper Buena Vista, Aventura Mall and Miami’s Design District and opens daily from 1 to 8 p.m. So what are you waiting for? Go get yourself a cholado. Dale!
