The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch in Miami for Thursday, January 28.
A fire weather watch has been issued for Thursday, January 28 in Miami! The NWS issued the alert for Miami due to the ongoing dry conditions and the gusty winds expected to hit the area on Thursday. The conditions could favor the rapid spread of fires.
“Poor dispersions will become generally good for most of the afternoon, then reduce to poor values again overnight as transport winds decrease and patchy fog develops over portions of interior South Florida,” reads the NWS Miami report. ” Relative humidities are forecast to drop significantly by Thursday afternoon, necessitating a Fire Weather Watch.”
It seems like fog will continue to be an issue for Southern Floridians as well, as the NWS explained patches of dense fog could continue to develop in the region. According to a recent tweet from NWS Miami, some areas already reported nearly zero visibility on Wednesday morning. Officials recommend driving slowly and with extra caution during this time.
The Fire Weather Watch will go into effect on Thursday morning and will remain in place through Thursday night. At this time, authorities recommend avoiding outdoor burning that may cause brush fire ignition. Stay safe Miamians!
