If you’re still trying to figure out where to watch today’s solar eclipse, Shuckers Waterfront Grill is joining the celebration of this rare event by offering the opportunity to gaze up at it from its picturesque waterfront patio! How’s that for a view?
The viewing party will take place on Monday, April 8th as guests indulge in two special cocktails to get them in the spirit: “Over the Moon” and “Blinded by the Lights”. Served throughout the day, each cocktail includes a shooter and is available for $10. Upgrades to a thermal souvenir are $15 and, of course, eclipse glasses will be available!
Visitors who decide to keep the party going until night, way past the cosmic spectacle, can try out the restaurant’s Reverse Happy Hour specials from 10 p.m. until close. That includes $4 domestic draft beers, $5 domestic bottled beers, $6 well drinks, $8 frozen cocktails and $12 pitchers of the day.
April’s solar eclipse
So what is the solar eclipse and why does it feel like such a big deal? On April 8, the moon will pass directly between the Earth and the sun. Named the Great American Eclipse, it will cross over more than a dozen U.S. states, from Texas to Maine. While Florida isn’t in this “path of totality,” those of us in Miami can still catch a glimpse of the astronomical event. And yes, it’s a big deal because the next eclipse we can see from the U.S. won’t be for another two decades.
When to view it in Miami
As a partial solar eclipse, it will cover 45% of the sun around Miami. It can be viewed from 1:47 p.m. to 4:13 p.m., reaching its peak at 3:01 p.m. It’s important to keep those times in mind when planning your visit to Shuckers!
For more information on how you can safely view the solar eclipse, such as solar viewing glasses or a handheld solar viewer, and what to expect, you can visit NASA’s official site.
