Situated right on 16th and Collins Ave is Koa Poke & Burrito, a trendy eatery that serves poke and açai bowls, as well as poke burritos (think a very large sushi roll). But tucked behind the restaurant is an inconspicuous red door leading to Nossa Omakase — a prohibition-style bar and omakase experience.
Nossa, which translates to “wow” in Portuguese, lives up to its name with 16 to 18 courses offered inside. It landed in the prestigious Michelin Guide in 2022 and takes inspiration from the timeless Japanese tradition.
To enter, you’ll have to book a reservation where you’ll receive special instructions on how to get to the secluded location. While we won’t give away all the secrets, we can say that guests arrive at Koa Poke to receive an envelope that includes a password that rotates nightly.
Once you relay the password, the red door will open to a speakeasy Bar Nossa that showcases black-and-white Japanese films on the walls. A complimentary cocktail or sake is given to guests as they wait in anticipation for what’s to come.
When it’s time to start the omakase, you’ll be escorted through a dark corridor that opens up into a theater-like den and a 14-seat circular counter, where the executive chef awaits.
Highlights include smoking lobster sashimi, uni with black truffle on crispy rice, A5 wagyu nigiri, chutoro nigiri topped with caviar and otoro uni truffle temaki. Expect lots of smoke, some dire and a tableside show as garnishes are finished before your eyes, including lavish accompaniments such as freshly shaved truffles, caviar and edible gold that fit right in with the high-end aesthetic of the space.
Nossa Omakase was founded by four friends who live in South Florida, including cosmopolitan gourmands and Koa Poke partners Sebastian Labno and Astrid Ramirez.
“We’ve traveled all over the world for sushi and when it comes to omakase, we felt Miami was ready for something bigger and better. We wanted to introduce an intimate yet, thrilling experience that matches the same vibrancy of this city,” the duo shared in a release.
Menu options include a 16-18 course dinner ($375 per guest) or the new Bluefin Toro and Caviar dinner that occurs once a month. More recently, Nossa Omakase launched a nigiri night on Tuesday with one seating at 7:30 p.m., offering a unique selection of dry aged Japanese bluefin tuna, otoro, chūtoro, akamai, senaka, king salmon belly and more.
You can find Nossa Omakase at 1600 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. For more info, click here to visit their website.
