Why is it called the Flower Moon?
The May moon’s name is derived from the abundance of flowers during this time of year as seen by the Algonquin tribes of what is now the north-eastern U.S. The name traces back to the Maine Farmers’ Almanac in the 1930s, according to NASA. Other names include the Corn or Corn Planting Moon, which likely refers to the late spring, early summer corn planting season.
