If the thrill of adventure is what you seek then we’ve got just the plan for you! Channel your inner Indiana Jones and discover a civilization that thrived in a mythical world at Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru.
This world premiere exhibition will take you on an unprecedented journey through the jewel of the Incan Empire and one of the new seven wonders of the world as you explore its marvelous treasures in an enthralling immersive experience.
Marvel at more than 190 stunning artifacts retrieved from royal tombs that once belonged to noble Andean lords. Come face-to-face with one of the most impressive collections of gold treasures to ever tour the world — Many of which have never been seen outside Peru before!
Rivaled only by Ancient Egypt in longevity and by the Roman Empire in engineering, Andean societies dominated a substantial segment of South America for over 3,000 years. Nestled in a cloud forest the Incas created an empire of architectural prowess and astounding riches, protected by the towering peaks of the Andes, unseen from below.
In this world-class exhibition, you’ll head on an expedition through the Adean nature to unravel the mysteries of Andean cosmology and marvel at the sophistication of Andean artists. All accompanied by the sounds of roaring jaguars, screaming macaws and torrential rainfall!
Guided by the mythological Andean hero Ai Apaec, you will gain a window into a transformation through the forces of nature that result in his death and subsequent rebirth. In the magical universe of Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, nothing is fixed and beings can change from one form to another.
The exhibition also features a special VR experience that will allow you to explore the wonders of Machu Picchu’s citadel from up close. Filmed during the lockdown of 2020 when the city was completely closed off to visitors, the experience features the founder of Machu Picchu, the grand Inca emperor Pachacuti, who infuses viewers with the spirit of the condor then flies with them across the magnificent landscape.
On your visit, you’ll meet the city’s ancient inhabitants and experience some of its most iconic locations from the Temple of the Sun to the heights of Huayna Picchu. Cinematic chairs will enhance this VR experience with additional surprise effects that will even make you taste the fresh mountain air of the Andes!
Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru is now open at Boca Raton Museum for a limited run. Tickets start at $19.95 and can be purchased through the museum’s website.
