Get ready for a colorful weekend in Miami Shores because the village is celebrating their inaugural Coming Out Day!
In partnership with non-profit SAVE Dade, Miami Shores Pride is painting the streets rainbow with dazzling community activities on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m.
The celebration will kick off with a lively Big Gay Parade, starting at Grand Concourse between NE 96th Street and Park Drive, so gather your crew and head out! Then the energetic vibes will continue down at the Athletic Field for a Tea Dance, known as thé dansant (French for “dancing tea”) which originated in the 1950s and were a safe space for the community to live freely and mingle with peers.
It’s a fabulous day filled with live music, special performances by Daniel Rene and DJ Musicat! If you’re looking to enjoy some local flavors, Miami Shores Country Club will host a pop-up bar, Mama Jennie’s Italian Restaurant, and a pizza pop-up with food and drinks.
Now, what’s pride without a drag brunch? Before the parade, Sins Gastrobar will serve up signature drinks and bites for its monthly brunch hosted by Poison Ivy with friends Adorable Adora, Olga Dantelly, Kat Wilderness and Naya Lords. The prideful brunch will take place at the restaurant at 1 p.m. with $30 bottomless mimosas and sangria pitchers for up to 2 hours.
While Miami Beach Pride is held in April and Wynwood Pride in June, October is still the perfect month to celebrate since it’s LGBT History Month. In fact, the event date was purposefully chosen to celebrate Miami-Dade Gay History Month, Barry University’s Pride Celebration and the week of National Coming Out Day!
The soon-to-be annual celebration is free to attend, although guests are highly encouraged to donate a minimum of $10 at entry. Money raised will go to support scholarships by the Point Foundation, the largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ+ students, as well as SAVE, South Florida’s longest serving organization dedicated to protecting people of all sexual orientations and gender identities against discrimination.
Parking for the parade will be available at Park Drive south of NE 96th Street.
