
You might want to check the local forecast before making beach plans or getting on your boat this 4th of July weekend, as a tropical system is on track to develop near Florida. According to the National Hurricane Center, a tropical or subtropical depression has a 40% chance of developing within seven days from a low pressure system.
“Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is possible across portions of the southeast U.S., particularly across the west-central Florida coast,” the hurricane center said in a Wednesday afternoon update.
This weekend is going to be a rainy one for Miami, with a 70% chance of precipitation on Friday during the day and a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms by night. Temperatures will remain in the upper 80s, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
Saturday is also looking to be a soaker, with a 70% chance of showers and likely thunderstorms. Chances will go down to 50% by Sunday, which will be partly sunny with a high near 89.

The odds of a tropical development near Florida have increased in the last couple of days, going from a 20% chance on Monday to 40% on Wednesday. Conditions currently appear “marginally conducive” for slow development, possibly forming by this holiday weekend or early next week. Should the system reach tropical storm strength, winds of at least 39 mph, it would be named Tropical Storm Chantal.
