At McKee Botanical Gardens you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a magical fairyland!
Ever wondered what a fairy village would look like? Well, we have…And honestly, it would look a lot like McKee Botanical Gardens. Filled with luscious greens, this magical oasis near Miami is home to some whimsical creations and botanical wonders that will make you feel like you’ve wandered into a fantastic fairytale land.
Purchased by Arthur McKee and Waldo Sexton in 1922 for cultivating citrus, the original 80-acre tropical hammock was so stunning and unique, McKee and Sexton chose to transform it into the magical oasis that it is today. Nowadays only 18 acres remain of the original ones but there’s still plenty to explore!
From its astounding collection of water lilies and orchids to some of the most exotic flora and fauna on earth, this Florida Landmark has it all. Weave your way through this luscious oasis and discover natural wonders like the giant mushroom, hidden deep within the garden, that will make you feel like you’ve just stepped into Alice’s Wonderland.
At McKee, you’ll also find plenty of man-made sculptures that are nothing short of spectacular. Created by Patrick and Sam Daugherty, the Grand Central Stickwork Sculpture in the Royal Palm Grove area will make you feel like you’ve entered a magical fairy village.
And if we still haven’t convinced you on the fairyland thing, at McKee you’ll also find an adorable outdoor kitchen sculpture that really does look like something straight out of a fairy village.
You can tour the wondrous McKee Botanical Gardens for $15 every Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Just make sure to book your tickets ahead of time!
