When Anthony’s Runway 84 announced its closure for a complete revamp in the spring of 2022, it came as quite a surprise. The aviation-themed Fort Lauderdale eatery opened its doors 40 years ago, becoming a landmark known for its classic Italian-American fare.
Eight months later, following a $4 million renovation, the restaurant has ushered in a new era with a new look, new name and new additions to its menu.
“The decision to close was not an easy one to make but it was the right one,” said owner Anthony Bruno in a statement. “A successful 40-year run is almost unheard of in this business. We were blessed and lucky to have such a loyal following that stayed with us over so many years. It was time to refresh and prepare for our next 40 years doing what we do best: make people feel like family.”
Anthony’s Runway 84, now simply Runway 84, sports a new and improved contemporary feel, like a modern Italian supper club reminiscent of 1930s and ’40s. Complete with plush booths and a spacious bar, Miami-based firm Bigtime Design Studios was tapped to reimagine the space.
The entranceway, main indoor dining room and al fresco patio have undergone a makeover, and the restaurant seats about 190 guests both indoors and outdoors. Like any supper club, nightly live entertainment sets the right vibe, so a live music lounge featuring a grand piano and a crystal chandelier are among the new additions.
But fear not, loyal diners! Several elements stayed the same, like the iconic photo-lined “Wall of Fame,” which chronicles the restaurant’s many famous faces, and signature dishes everyone knows and loves.
Runway 84 has reintroduced its food offerings to its extensive menu, giving visitors a chance to sample classics such as its meatballs and rigatoni as well as new additions like a Prime Steaks & Chops section and plenty of new cocktails.
The major relaunch comes as Anthony Bruno partnered with fellow restaurateurs Pat Marzano of Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza and Marc Falsetto of Handcrafted Hospitality (Tacocraft, Pizzacraft).
