Summer has arrived and it’s time to make a splash! While there are a number of super-soaked locations in Miami — beaches, waterparks; you name it — you’ll have to coast up to Pasco County if you really want to go big this season because it now boasts the largest man-made lagoon in the country.
The Mirada Lagoon is a massive body of water (made up of 33 million gallons to be exact) located at the Mirada community development in the Tampa Bay area. It features a swim-up bar, fun water slide and splash zone.
For a little more fun, go for a run on the lagoon’s inflatable obstacle course, try out some kayaking or paddleboarding or book a stay at a “Cabana Cove” (available for guests 21 and up), all of which can be purchased as add-ons.
Measuring in at 15 acres, the turquoise oasis is the largest man-made lagoon in the U.S. It follows two others built by the same company, Tampa-based Metro Development Group and MetroLagoons, in Epperson and Southshore Bay. Epperson, which opened in 2018, became the first one ever in the country.
In addition to clear waters, the Miranda Lagoon also has a nearly mile-long perimeter and 17.2 million pounds of sand. You’ll find food trucks on site, as well at upcoming events like movies, trivia nights and live music performances. See their full lineup of events here.
According to the release, the summertime destination is a “key driver for the community’s growth, as the majority of homebuyers name the Lagoon as a leading reason they picked Mirada for their new home.” More than 1,200 homes are currently occupied and it is estimated that Mirada will ultimately have approximately 4,500 homes, with prices ranging from the high $200,000s to nearly $1 million.
“We continue to see significant interest and demand in our Lagoon communities,” said Vaike O’Grady, Metro Development Group’s vice president of marketing and communications. “They offer a unique Florida lifestyle to residents, an incredible waterside experience for visitors, and contribute to the county’s vitality and economic growth.”
The Mirada Lagoon is located at 31461 Mirada Blvd in San Antonio, Florida, and is now open. For more information and tickets, click here to visit MetroLagoons’ website.
