Having just said goodbye to the Miami Seaquarium after 70 years of operation last month, new renderings are giving us a glimpse into the site’s completely reimagined future.
Plans are underway to transform the 38-acre county-owned property, led by Coconut Grove-based developer Terra Group, into a vibrant waterfront hub. It would feature a large aquarium, marina, expansive baywalk and “fisherman’s village” with dining and retail options.

The new, accredited aquarium will focus solely on conservation and education and not house any dolphins or sea lions — all current marine mammals are said to be relocated prior to the lease transfer.
What is the future Seaquarium going to look like?
Terra has released renderings of what the new era for the Seaquarium will usher in after the $100 million redevelopment is complete. They show lush, landscaped areas and plenty of space for visitors to walk around.

In another rendering, the signature outdoor aquarium appears to be two stories tall and lined with glass walls.

The design also features six new docks, kayak launches and a vast baywalk running along the shoreline. Historic elements like the Buckminster Fuller geodesic dome will also be preserved and repurposed as an event space.

Looking ahead, the proposal awaits final approval from the County Commission this December.
