While we can all use some respite from the heat, one of the best parts about the summer months are having brighter and longer days. But alas, all good things come to an end and the time has come for earlier sunsets.
We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this weekend marks the very last 8 p.m. sunset of the year for Miami. So this is your reminder to enjoy the extra daylight while it lasts because, according to Time Time and Date, Friday, August 9 will be the final 8 p.m. sunset of 2024. This means that beginning Saturday night, the sun will begin setting earlier.
Of course, it’s not a monumental difference. For instance, the sunset on August 11th will be at 7:59 p.m. exactly, and the sunset on August 12th is slated for 7:58 p.m. But while sunset moves at a slower pace each day, the milestone is certainly significant! Not to mention, sunrise times will also be later, rising after 6:51 a.m. on the 9th.
Looking ahead to the future, the next sunset after 8 p.m. won’t be until May 2025, when we sacrifice an hour’s skip. And the “shortest” day of the year, or the day with the fewest daylight hours, will occur on December 21 of this year, the winter solstice.
On a brighter note, there’s so much to look forward to in the next few months. After all, we’re just getting started with August, so it’s time to get outside and continue to enjoy the long summer days!
