When it comes to cooling down at a natural spring, Florida has no shortage of options. But hidden away on the Gulf Coast a few hours’ drive from Miami lies a different kind of natural wonder. It’s one that feels more like a giant outdoor spa than your average swimming hole.
Located in North Port, Warm Mineral Springs holds the title of being the only naturally occurring warm spring in all of the state — remaining at 85 degrees all year! That’s because it’s actually a geothermal sinkhole formed roughly 30,000 years ago.
At over 200 feet deep, it is estimated to hold nearly 9 million gallons of water each day.
But it isn’t just the warmth that draws thousands of visitors to this refreshing spot. It contains one of the highest mineral contents of any natural spring in the country, with more than 50 different kinds, from sulfur to magnesium and potassium.
Because of this unique combination, the spring has earned several nicknames over the decades, often referred to as “Miracle Lake” and rumored by many to be the real location of Ponce de Leon’s “Fountain of Youth.”
