For many of us in Miami, summer doesn’t officially start until the mangoes hanging from every street corner are perfectly ripe. And nothing screams summertime in South Florida than standing underneath some swaying palms and taking a bite out of the tropical fruit while its juice runs down your chin. Which is why now’s the perfect time to celebrate the city’s favorite fruit once again!
As home to one of the largest mango collections in the world with more than 400 varieties in their prized collection, the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has been hosting the Mango Festival for nearly 3 decades, and it’s coming back this month from Saturday to Sunday, July 13-4!
At this beloved event, you’ll be able to purchase all the produce you want as well as mango trees, check out cooking demos and tastings, live music, lawn games and get your hands on specialty mango beverages! You can even listen in on lectures by mango experts that offer insights into various mango types, optimal growing techniques, tips on storing, harvesting and more.
But the highlight of it all is their signature Mango Brunch, where you can swap traditional brunch mimosas for mango cocktails. Sit in on the event, occurring only on Sunday at 11 a.m. for an extra cost. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet some of South Florida’s finest chefs such as Allen Susser of Chef Allen’s Consulting, Jeremy Ford of Stubborn Seed, Cindy Hutson of Cerveceria La Tropical and Zest at the Cliff, Cesar Zapata of Phuc Yea, Ghee and Mamey’s Niven Patel, among others. And if you haven’t guessed it already, all their dishes will incorporate mango in some way.
So grab your tote bag and head to this delightful celebration of all things mango, taking place on Saturday and Sunday, July 13-14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is located at 10901 Old Cutler Rd, Coral Gables, FL 33156.
