Hidden behind an unassuming gate in Little River is a community-driven, pop-up music venue that has just arrived on the scene: ZeyZey.
Created by Grassfed Culture Hospitality, the team behind Michelin-rated Los Félix and Krüs, in collaboration with Isabella Acker and Tigre Sounds, the new spot is equal parts live music venue, cool hangout, cocktail bar and food vendor space.
With an expiration date yet to be determined, ZeyZey stages live performances every Friday and Saturday night, vinyl DJs and electric dance parties in the disco, as well as monthly residencies and DJ collectives from around the world. With 15,000 square-feet of space, there’s plenty of room to get into the groove and vibe out to Afro-Cuban funk, Brazilian disco, salsa, cumbia, Afrobeats, electronic fusion and more.
Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a natural wine and craft beer gazebo. There’s a bungalow house adorned with white walls and an array of psycho-tropic inspired furniture, setting the stage for DJs to showcase their talent on a custom designed sound system. Adjacent to it is a vinyl listening room with a vast collection of over 3,000 records.
Step outside and find yourself under a large banyan tree, illuminated and surrounded by flexible seating options that spill into the backyard area. This is where you’ll find a shipping container with a full cocktail bar and a stage for live performances.
The venue also features a rotating selection of local food vendors curated by executive chef Sebastian Vargas, including The Maiz Project, Gutenberg Burger, Mana Table, and Dale Street Food.
ZeyZey means happiness in Iku, the language spoken by the Arhuacos — an indigenous community of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta Colombia. This is also the area where Sebastian Vargas’s family is from. As for drinks, the beverage program is helmed by Esther Merino and features a unique spin on traditional cocktails.
“In a city that is begging for more community and cultural experience, we are so excited to bring happiness by way of ZeyZey to Miami, said co-founder Josh Hackler in a release. “For us, this project will be the heartbeat of the city’s music scene with local roots and global influence. I couldn’t be more excited about the epic music programming, chefs we’ve partnered up with and overall beverage program. This is going to be a place for all to enjoy.”
ZeyZey is located at 353 NE 61 Street, Miami, FL. It’s open Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to late. Visit their Instagram to find updated schedules of upcoming programming.
