The 2026 FIFA World Cup has sadly come to an end, and while Spain may have taken home the trophy, Miami locals scored some wins of their own.
For the past two months, the city transformed into a global playground as it hosted matches at the Hard Rock Stadium and welcomed thousands of fans for an epic festival at Bayfront Park. Nonstop watch parties also spanned everywhere from Wynwood to South Beach, bringing fans closer than ever. Even going as far as dating.
According to a new survey by DatingAdvice.com, the festive atmosphere and influx of tourists surrounding the games significantly boosted the city’s dating scene.
They gathered responses from 1,000 singles across the 11 U.S. host cities and found that 69% of Miami singles experienced a spike in their dating and hookup activity while the tournament was in town. Nationwide, nearly half of all singles in host cities reported going on a date or hooking up with a World Cup tourist.
Instead of just relying on sports bars and watch parties, a whopping 80% of singles that were surveyed matched with someone on a dating app during the World Cup. Tinder alone saw a reported 47% increase in activity across host cities!
The trend isn’t limited to one demographic either; men (46%) and women (42%) reported similar increases in dating activity.
It all came down to Miami daters being suckers for accents. When asked what was the biggest draw to a World Cup visitor, 30.6% of locals said the accent was the #1 attraction. In fact, the Magic City was second only to New York City (31.5%) when it came to swooning over international voices, ranking it above physical attraction!
The survey also revealed that fans from Brazil and Argentina were considered the hottest and most dateable visitors. Overall, 76% of residents across all host cities said the tournament made their city more fun to be single in.
