If you’ve lived in Miami long enough, you know that rain is never truly far away in the city. But if you’d think those summer storms would disqualify us from any “good weather” distinctions, a new study says otherwise.
According to researchers at Premier Inn, Miami is one of the top 10 cities in the world least likely to ruin one’s vacation with bad weather.
The UK hotel chain analyzed 87 major cities across the globe to find out which destinations offer the most seamless, stress-free experience for travelers. They looked at five buzzkill metrics: airport delays, traffic congestion, mobile internet speeds, national holidays and, of course, unpredictable weather.
Breaking down Miami’s #9 weather ranking
When it came to weather consistency, Miami took the No. 9 spot globally, recording only 34 “extreme weather days” over the course of a year. We scored so well because our weather is incredibly predictable. Yes, it’s hot and we get intense storms, but unlike other cities where gray skies can linger on for days, our afternoon showers usually roll out as fast as they roll in. Give it thirty minutes and you’re back out on the water or grabbing a drink at your favorite outdoor spot!
If you’re curious, Lima, Peru took the No. 1 spot for weather (with four extreme weather days a year) and other U.S. cities like Las Vegas and San Diego made the Top 10.
Where Miami landed on the overall global ranking
When all five metrics were combined — factoring in things like I-95 traffic and delays at MIA — Miami landed at No. 44 out of 87 on the overall “World’s Smoothest Cities for Travellers to Visit in 2026” list. And while weather carried that score, cities with flawless public transit and less congestion had our city beat on the infrastructure side.
It was our Florida counterpart, Orlando, that got a perfect traffic score and made it all the way to No. 3 overall. The top five smoothest cities are:
