The beloved Wynwood dive bar will be closing down for good on Sunday, March 14.
The famous Wynwood dive bar Wood Tavern, recently announced it would be closing its doors permanently. The tavern shared a post on Monday, March 1, announcing “one last boogie” on Sunday, March 14. Owner Cesar Morales, who spoke with the Miami News Time, cited high rent rates and lack of sales as the reason.
“We’re down as much as 90 percent from last year. We’re also paying a premium rent. When the place was packed pre-COVID, it was okay, but it’s impossible to stay open with such a drastic dip in sales,” Morales told the News Time.
Although Wood Tavern has been complying with all CDC guidelines including curfew and low music volume, the dip in sales and limited capacity have made it difficult to keep the bar afloat.
The bar has been a staple of the Wynwood nighttime scene since it first opened nine years ago, and fans have definitely not taken the closure of one of their favorite bars well.
Wood Tavern closing for good is a sign that Wynwood isn’t *our* Wynwood anymore.

For many, the closure of Wood Tavern is also a clear sign of gentrification and signaling the end of an era in the popular and artistic neighborhood.
Y’all sad about Wood Tavern closing? That’s how I felt when Wynwood Yard got outta here. The gentrification is happening in real time. Nothing we can do to stop it.
