Last weekend marked the final day of service for the original location of Wall’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream. After 20 years of delighting Miamians on 8075 SW 67th Avenue, the South Miami staple unexpectedly closed its doors.
Known for its tasty frozen treats and retro charm, the family-owned gem was founded in 2005 and served everything from the creamiest scoops of ice cream to homemade fudge, sundaes and banana splits. Named best ice cream parlor over the years by the Miami New Times, you would find classic flavors like black cherry, cookies n’ cream, dulce de leche, mint flake, Oreo Heath Bar and Super Hero, among others.
The interiors of the parlor featured photos of customers on their famous “Wall of Fame” — at least of those who dared to take on the challenge of finishing nearly SIX pounds of ice cream — complete with 32 scoops of different ice cream flavors!
News of its closure came just two days before shutting its doors on October 4th, when the shop took to Instagram with a post that reads, “Don’t worry… Wall’s is not going away, we are ready to continue to serve you at our Sunset location (9521 SW 72nd St.) and we are working to open a new location near by.”
So while we can’t get our ice cream fix after munching on some Big Cheese pizza for the time being, we’re not entirely saying goodbye to Wall’s! You can still visit their second location on Sunset Drive, at 9521 SW 72nd Street, and hopefully their upcoming location pops up soon.
