If given the chance, most Miami fans would do anything in their power to get the Dolphins to the Super Bowl, let alone win. But what if it comes at the cost of never finding true love? With the Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day both around the corner, there’s no better time to ask single football fans the question: “Would you choose the thrill of a winning touchdown or the romance of the gown?”
In a recent survey conducted by sports betting site Wetten, nearly half of fans nationwide (48%) said they would rather see their team win the big game. Surveying 2,000 football enthusiasts across the U.S., the survey also revealed that 45% of single men would choose a Super Bowl win over true love, compared to 51% of single women.
Findings also showed that an impressive 55% of long-suffering Dolphins fans would opt for the Lombardi Trophy over finding genuine love. To our credit, if your team hasn’t seen that kind of success since the 1970s, there might be a shift in priorities.
But if you thought Dolphins fans had it bad, Detroit Lions fans led the survey with a whopping 74% giving up true love for a big Super Bowl win. Turns out being one of the NFL’s oldest franchises and never making a Super Bowl appearance can have that effect.
“When it comes to romance, the New England Patriots fans lead the pack,” Wetten said. “They’d rather find love than see their team win the Super Bowl, with only 22% choosing the win. Understandable—the Patriots, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers, hold the record for the most Super Bowl victories, each with 6 titles. After all those wins, it makes sense that the focus has now shifted to finding love.”
