With Miami soon to be in flight mode thanks to the arrival of Red Bull Flugtag, the A Day in Miami podcast has teamed up with the Michelin-recognized sandwich masters at Sanguich to create The Cuban Flyer. This oversized, human-powered flying machine complete with wings and a Cuban flag tail will be launched straight off the flight deck to prove it can travel the farthest, potentially breaking a world record!
What is Red Bull Flugtag?
Also known as “flying day” in German, the international competition brings together teams dressed in costumes to build and pilot unique, homemade machines with the goal of flying the longest distance over a body of water. Currently, the Red Bull Flugtag world distance record stands at 78.5 meters (approximately 257.5 feet).
The free event returns to Bayfront Park on Halloween day for the first time since 2013.
How the flying cuban sandwich came to be

A Cuban sandwich that can actually fly wasn’t originally on the agenda for A Day in Miami, which is known for highlighting the people and businesses that define the Magic City. But when they partnered with the husband-and-wife duo behind Little Havana’s Sanguich, Daniel Figueredo and Rosa Romero, the idea of bringing a piece of Cuban culture to the skies was born.
The five-person crew bringing the aircraft to life include trained engineer turned restaurateur Daniel Figueredo; marketers, producers and podcast hosts Eduardo “Eddy” Moya and Kiko Suarez; retirement and business consultant Juan Pablo Ganem and CPA Jorge Dueñas.

A behind-the-scenes series leading up to the event has been released on A Day in Miami’s Youtube and social media channels, where audiences can follow the building process and the challenges that came along with it.
“We have a group of entrepreneurs, producers, and creatives bringing different talents to the table to figure out how to make a Cuban sandwich fly. Whether we break the record or not, what matters most is celebrating our roots, having fun, and bringing the community together for something unforgettable,” said Figueredo.
