As if hosting multiple FIFA World Cup matches this summer wasn’t enough to satisfy our city’s futbol fever, Miami is set to welcome the final stages of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup in early 2027. That’s right, more world-class soccer is coming our way as this new competition sets its sights on the Magic City!
According to the Miami Herald, the U.S. will serve as the host for next year’s edition of the women’s tournament, following a recent FIFA council meeting in Vancouver. The final phase, which includes the semifinals, a third-place match and championship final, is looking to take place from January 27 to 31 in Miami.
While it’s too early to say where the action will go down, it will likely take place at the Hard Rock Stadium or the new Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park. Having just opened its doors, the Nu Stadium features 26,700 seats and is the permanent home of Inter Miami CF.
What is the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup?
This annual tournament brings the top six women’s club teams in the world together. Each team qualifies by winning the championship of their respective continental confederation (UEFA, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, CAF, AFC and OFC). However, it will only be played in years when the larger, 16-team Women’s Club World Cup (set to debut in 2028) isn’t taking place.
The inaugural edition of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup just wrapped up this year in London, where Arsenal claimed the first title by defeating Corinthians. If Miami is announced as a host city for 2027, it will be staging the second-ever edition of the tournament!
