The days of spontaneously deciding you want a Chicken Tender Sub at 12:15 p.m. on a Thursday are long gone…. Publix Super Markets has announced that all made-to-order subs will require a two-week advance reservation due to high demand.
In a press release this morning, the Florida-based supermarket chain confirmed it is opening an online portal to manage the overwhelming amount of daily customers at its deli counter. Found directly on the Publix website, the portal will open every morning at 7 a.m. to allow users to select a 10-minute time slot exactly 14 days in the future.
According to the guidelines, walk-ins will be prohibited and you must input your exact order in the app 14 days prior. If you decide two weeks later that you actually do want green peppers, you’ll be fresh out of luck. What’s more, those who are over 10 minutes late to their designated “Sub Slot” will lose their reservation and their sandwich will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in the floral department.
So if you’re craving a sub right now, you have two options: start refreshing their website for a mid-April lunch to head to the deli yourself and hope there’s a pre-made Italian left over.
Anyone living in Florida will tell you that Pub Subs are immensely popular, so this drastic measure comes at no surprise. We reached out to Publix for further comment and a representative stated, “APRIL FOOLS!”
Happy April Fool’s Day, Miami!
Before you start rushing to your nearest Publix, check the date! Your subs are safe and still walk-in friendly, though we can’t promise the lines won’t be any shorter.
