If we’re going to take recommendations from anyone about the many places to check out in Miami, it’s got to be from none other than Mr. 305! As part of Apple Maps’ new ‘Hyperlocal’ guide series, Pitbull is sharing a look at his native hometown by highlighting local favorites that have shaped and inspired him.
Of the many spots listed in the guide, one that stands out the most is Mary’s Cafe and Coin Laundry — a Cuban café and laundromat all in one. Now, true locals already know how good this beloved institution is… but if you don’t know it yet, let us put you on!
About Mary’s Cafe and Coin Laundry
Located north of Coconut Grove, Mary’s Cafe stands out as a 24-hour culinary gem, making it the perfect spot for midnight cravings, breakfast snacks and everything in between. It features the kinds of food and drinks you’d expect from a Cuban café while doubling as a coin-operated laundromat. Order from their famed ventanita, where you’ll find classically delicious Cuban sandwiches like their pan con bistec or a medianoche. You can also opt for some of their croquetas, bocaditos, batidos or a café con leche.
When it comes to the laundromat side of the establishment, they’ve got washers and dryers for customers to tend to their chores while enjoying their meal.
Mary’s was founded by Orestes Morales, who immigrated from Cuba in 1971. The business would begin as a coin laundry throughout the ’80s before expanding as a cafeteria by including a ventanita to serve its late-night laundry customers. Today, it is still family-owned, with Morales’ grandchildren managing the operation.
As Pitbull simply puts it, you’ll want to start at Mary’s if you’re getting to know the city’s heartbeat.
“This spot’s the real Miami—cafecito strong, abuelas louder, and hustle in the air. I grew up seeing magic in places like this, where every stain on the floor tells a story,” he said. “No failures, only opportunities…and cafecito.”
