Looking for some well-deserved R&R with a weekend road trip this summer? You’ll want to tune in to HGTV first!
A nearly century-old property in the heart of Islamorada is debuting a new look in a spinoff of Bryan and Sarah Baeumler’s Renovation Island series.
Premiering June 7, Renovation Island: The Adventure Continues will follow the stars as they help two Naples families execute a full-scale transformation on the historic Pines & Palms Resort. Originally built in the 1930s, the four-acre property will go from crumbling infrastructure and leaking roofs to a modernized retreat while still keeping its “Old Florida” charm.

How two Naples families became resort owners
The Florida families — the Reizens and the McKimms — first crossed paths in 2017 and quickly became inseparable. Bonded by their six children and a shared love of escaping to the Keys, they have long claimed Islamorada as their home away from home.

When word spread in 2022 that the Pines & Palms Resort might be coming up for sale, Nick and Raynie Reizen, as well as Chad and Katie McKimm met with longtime owners Jim and Sara Bernardin to walk the property’s tropical grounds and take in its sweeping ocean views.

The decision was easy; they purchased the resort together that year and got to work.
But a year later, the families quickly realized the iconic hideaway needed far more than just surface-level updates. Aging infrastructure, failing appliances and growing guest feedback made it clear: Pines & Palms deserved a full makeover.

“There were moments during construction when we truly wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. But watching this place come to life — seeing the vision finally become real — made every stressful day completely worth it. We’re so proud of what Pines & Palms has become,” co-owner Katie said in a release.
Meeting with the Baeumlers of HGTV’s Renovation Island, a creative collaboration would soon be underway. Construction officially kicked off in June 2024 and wrapped in December, with cameras and crew on-site to capture every high, setback and hard-won breakthrough.
