We already know that Miami’s food scene is unmatched when it comes to flavor, but it’s also just as beautiful! One Coral Gables newcomer is capturing the attention of one of the industry’s highest global honors, earning a spot on Prix Versailles’ World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants this year.
The international architecture and design award supported by UNESCO has released its annual list of standout establishments that reflect what it calls the “dominant aesthetic and cultural dynamics around the world.” Mottai, the first U.S. concept from Brazil’s Attivo Group, finds itself on the coveted list alongside eateries in London, Hong Kong, Vienna, Monaco and Beverly Hills.
The sophisticated space opened earlier this year, blending Japanese cuisine with French technique in an atmosphere that transitions from daytime gatherings to more intimate evening celebrations.
And that it does, as Prix Versailles highlights its custom furniture, curved architectural forms and tactile materials that encourages diners’ comfort and connection.
“The location’s architecture, arranged around an open sushi bar beneath a delicate canopy in the middle of the room, echoes traditional Japanese spatial philosophies that emphasise discipline and minimalism,” the list reads.
Fully imagined by Saladino Design Studios, the interiors feature marble tables and deep blue velvet seating, as well as subtle LED accents and soft white uplighting. The space is anchored by striking white crane wall art, a notable symbol in Japanese culture.
And while the design might first draw you in, the menu is just as indulgent. Guided by Chef Brian Nasajon, the restaurant serves a diverse mix of cold and hot small plates, raw preparations and grill-focused entrees like the Sugi Katsu and American Wagyu Rib-Eye. For dessert, there’s creative choices like the breakfast-inspired Mango Chawanmushi and rich Chocolate Fondanta with Okinawa Espresso ice cream.
