How does the saying go again? A sunny place full of shady people? A recent study has named Miami the rudest city among the 46 largest U.S. metro areas and all we have to say is… ouch! But get this, it’s Miamians themselves who say that we’re the rudest. So at least we’re self-aware?
Preply, an online language-learning platform, set out to survey thousands of residents on the types of rude behaviors they witness in their everyday lives. This includes being absorbed by your phone in public areas or aggressive merging (guilty).
According to our own residents, Miami scored a 9.88 on a 0-10 scale for displaying certain behaviors like lack of awareness in public, talking loudly on the phone in shared spaces, rudeness to service staff members, not showing kindness towards strangers and not allowing vehicles to merge in front of them while driving. In our defense, we’ve got places to be!
More specifically, nearly 90% of residents pointed to downtown Miami and Brickell as the neighborhoods where people are not-so-nice, as opposed to those residing in Hialeah or Miami Lakes. Additionally, 54% say that native Miamians are ruder than newcomers.
According to the ranking, the second rudest city in the U.S. goes to Philadelphia with a score of 9.12, followed by another Florida city, Tampa, in third place.
How about the most polite cities in the country? The city of Omaha is considered home to the least rude residents with a score of 6.24. Coming in second place for least rude is Minneapolis and San Diego in third.
