Bias aside, Florida is a pretty fun state when you think about all of our parks, festivals, beaches and eateries to enjoy. And apparently we’re not the only ones that think so! On the heels of ranking Florida the second best state to live in, WalletHub just released a study ranking U.S. states on how “fun” they are, and Florida came in at number one.
The study looked at all 50 states and evaluated them based on 26 key indicators of a jolly good time that — ahem — won’t break the bank. This ranged from movie costs to accessibility of national parks and nightlife options.
It comes at no surprise that Florida had high rankings in the number of restaurants (tying first with California, New York and Texas), amusement parks, arcades and music festivals per capita. There’s a couple of places we’re already naming in our heads when reading that, from Disney World to Universal Orlando, Tampa’s Busch Gardens and, of course, music festivals like West Palm Beach’s SunFest and Miami’s Ultra Music fest.
Those of us who prefer to have a good time outdoors can really appreciate Florida’s weather, which came in at 12th best overall, at least not when it’s a miserably hot summer. The state also has the most marinas per capita and the second most miles of shoreline.
Wallethub also noted that Florida had the third most attractions and fitness centers, fifth in golf courses and country clubs as well as performing arts theaters, and sixth best “variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments.”
These are the top 10 most fun states, according to WalletHub:
- Florida
- California
- Nevada
- New York
- Colorado
- Illinois
- Texas
- Washington
- Minnesota
- Louisiana
