If you’ve been feeling a strain on your wallet when parking anywhere in the city, your next trip to Miami Beach is about to get cheaper at least. Starting August 1 and running through October 31, the City of Miami Beach is bringing back its $1-per-hour parking promotion across municipal lots, garages and on-street spaces.
Last year, a similar promotion proved so beneficial for local businesses during the slower months that it was eventually extended through the end of September. Now, the city is once again slashing the cost of parking for a full three months to help drive traffic into the fall.
“Reducing parking to just $1 an hour from August through October helps us welcome more visitors while supporting the small businesses that anchor our community,” said Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez in a release. “We’re bringing back this promotion by popular demand to encourage people to come earlier, stay longer, support local businesses and enjoy everything Miami Beach has to offer as we gear up for peak season.”
How the $1 hourly parking rate works
For starters, the parking discount is available exclusively through the ParkMobile app. Users will receive up to three discounted hours per parking session and up to 45 total discounted hours throughout the three-month promotional period.
To take advantage of the rate, open the app and enter the parking zone number. A unique promo code for that zone will appear in a pop-up banner. You’ll only need to enter the code once to keep your vehicle within a zone that shares the same hourly rate.
Whether you’re looking to spend a day on the sand, catch a free outdoor concert at Lummus Park or enjoy a meal at a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try (keep in mind that Miami Spice begins Aug. 1), the promotion aims to make visiting more accessible without the burden of pricey parking fees.
