Have you ever wanted to travel by sleeper train? Well, you might want to start thinking about your perfect getaway because an ambitious project is looking to establish a new network of night trains connecting the East Coast, Midwest and Canada. And yes, this includes Miami!
Aptly named Lunatrain, the Philadelphia-based company aims to provide an alternative to flying and driving with “express, nonstop service” sleeper trains. By focusing on overnight rides, passengers could sleep off their travel time and spend their waking hours on vacation. Just think, you could set off from Miami in the evening and wake up refreshed in Nashville or even Toronto. That sounds like quite the trip!
What would these trains look like?

Lunatrain plans to offer a variety of sleeping cabins designed for solo travelers, couples and families (or groups). Unlike your typical train accommodations, these cabins would be equipped with numerous power outlets, improved soundproofing for optimal sleeping conditions and onboard amenities. Travelers could also expect high-speed Wi-Fi, full-service dining options, lounge spaces and showers.

Economy and premium options for cabins would be available, which Lunatrain says will be priced competitively with an airline seat of the same class and route.
What cities would Lunatrain connect?
According to a map, Lunatrain’s route would be a game-changer, stretching as far south as Miami and as far north as Montréal. The network will be anchored in New York and Philadelphia, while extending to cities like Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Dallas, New Orleans, Nashville, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Boston and Toronto.

When can we expect Lunatrains to be in service?
While an exact date of service is unknown, Lunatrain plans to release a demonstration unit by the second half of 2026. This will give potential passengers a chance to provide feedback on its cabin designs before the full fleet is built.
