Miami may not be known for pizza in the same way that New York, Chicago, Detroit or even Italian cities are. But there’s no denying that we have flavorful pizzas if you know where to look! One beloved pizzeria in Little River just ranked among the best in the world, becoming the only one in Florida to do so.
The Best Pizza Awards, organized by The Best Chef Awards, is an annual ceremony that honors the world’s top pizzaiolos and pizzerias. Established in 2023, their goal is to “break down barriers in the pizza world and spotlight authentic craftsmanship, bold innovation, and diverse voices that are shaping the future of this iconic dish.”
Cozy minimalist spot, La Natural, earned its place on the prestigious 2025 list, coming in at No. 35 and beating out pizzerias in Spain, Japan and even Italy! The Best Pizza Awards honored chef and co-owner Javier Ramirez for crafting “authentic, artisanal pizzas made from a unique dough recipe developed by Javier himself.”
The Venezuelan-born restaurateur made waves in the culinary scene with the opening of his first restaurant, Alter, followed by Palmar and Bachour (alongside pastry chef Antonio Bachour). Shifting his focus to sourdough pies, Ramirez and his wife, Andreina Matos, launched La Natural in 2020, which became a local favorite for its flavorful crusts and locally-sourced ingredients.
In fact, the eatery has been recognized by the Michelin Guide for its creative pies like the classic burrata and basil, as well as an impressive list of natural wines. It’s easy to see why, with an inviting atmosphere, funky alternative music and wood-fired pizzas featuring unique toppings like za’atar and Sichuan peppercorns.
