Miami’s food scene continues to impress, with 2025 bringing recognition from one of the most prestigious honors in the culinary industry. The James Beard Foundation released its list of this year’s Restaurant and Chef Awards this week, and a couple of local establishments were honored as finalists!
Established more than 30 years ago, the James Beard Awards not only recognize exceptional talent and achievement, they also recognize those who have demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability and a culture where all can thrive. Back in January, it was announced that six Miami restaurants, bars and chefs were among this year’s semifinalists, and only two remain in the running. See them below:
Best Chef: South category
🌟 Nando Chang of Itamae AO (Midtown)
📍 3225 NE 1st Ave, Miami, FL 33137
Best New Bar
🌟 ViceVersa (Downtown Miami)
📍 398 NE 5th St, Miami, FL 33132
In the spirit of highlighting other Florida spots, Ômo by Jônt in Winter Park made the finalists list for Best New Restaurant. Sue Chin and Jason Chin of Good Salt Restaurant Group in Orlando (Seito Sushi, Reyes Mezcaleria, The Osprey) became the city’s first James Beard finalists for Outstanding Restaurateur.
The winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 16, in Chicago. See the full list of James Beard Award finalists on the official website here.
