Miami’s food scene continues to impress, with 2024 bringing recognition from one of the most prestigious honors in the culinary industry. The James Beard Foundation released its list of this year’s Restaurant and Chef Awards on Wednesday, and several local chefs were honored as finalists!
Established more than 30 years ago, the James Beard Awards not only recognize exceptional talent and achievement, they also recognize those who have demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability and a culture where all can thrive. Back in January, it was announced that five Miami restaurants, bakeries and chefs were among this year’s semifinalists, and only two remain in the running. See them below:
Best Chef: South category
- Valerie Chang, executive chef and owner of Maty’s (Midtown)
Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker
- Son and father duo Jesus Brazon and Manuel Brazon of Caracas Bakery (Doral and MiMo)
In the spirit of highlighting other Florida spots, Kaya in Orlando made the finalists list for Best New Restaurant. The winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 10, in Chicago.
