Ring in the spring this weekend at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove, which is hosting a vibrant Festival of Colors with plenty of music, dancing and an explosion of colors!
The delightful event, also known as Holi, has been celebrated in India and other parts of the world for centuries. It’s a time where friends and family come together to celebrate spring’s arrival and the triumph of good over evil by dancing, feasting and splashing colorful powder on each other. This is actually the first time the festival comes to Miami and the second time in South Florida, following an inaugural 2023 event attended by hundreds in Fort Lauderdale.
Taking place on Saturday, April 13, the day promises hourly color throws, a lineup of performances and fantastic food vendors serving up vegetarian and vegan options. While there isn’t exactly a dress code, white clothing is recommended so that the colors thrown in the air can best be shown! There will also be yoga, meditation, arts and crafts and dance workshops throughout the day.
“We want to create a space where people can come together, have fun, and celebrate the beauty of diversity and unity,” said festival organizer, Vasanti Dasi. “This festival is a celebration of life, love, and happiness.”
You can celebrate Holi Festival of Colors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Peacock Park, 2820 McFarlane Road, Miami, FL 33133. Attendees can register for $5, while kids under 12 enter free. There’s a special discount offer for students and veterans.
