This may come as no surprise to anyone who’s stepped outside today, but coastal and metro parts of Miami-Dade and Broward are under a heat advisory until this evening.
With temperatures expected to climb to the lower 90s, forecasters say the heat index could reach as high as 107 degrees.
The National Weather Service says the advisory will last through 6 p.m. today, June 15, across the cities of Sunrise, Deerfield Beach, Carol City, Hialeah, Miramar, Davie, Sawgrass Mills Mal, Pembroke Pines, Kendall, Kendale Lakes, Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Pompano Beach and Coral Springs.
When looking at the forecast around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens for the FIFA World Cup match between Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, there is potential for showers and thunderstorms mainly after 5 p.m. The game kicks off at 6 p.m., and rain should be short-lived. Per the NWS, the chance of precipitation is 70%.
If you’re planning to be outdoors today, there’s no better time to take the following precautions: stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during the hottest hours, seek air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, wear light-weight clothing and check in on neighbors, older adults and anyone who may be particularly vulnerable to the heat.
