It’s been the talk of the town for quite some time now as the video game world eagerly awaits the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. But while the game was planning for a release this fall, it has now been delayed until May 26, 2026.
In a statement released Friday, developer Rockstar Games said the team needs the extra time to “deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
Apologizing for the delay, the company that is no stranger to long development cycles added that the “interest and excitement” around GTA VI had been “truly humbling” for the entire team.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” the statement reads.
Not much has been revealed about the upcoming game since the trailer dropped in December 2023, which has since passed 250 million views. Set in Vice City, a fictionalized version of Miami, locations like the Everglades, Wynwood and even Club Space could be spotted in the video.
Players will get to choose between Jason and Lucia — the series’ first female protagonist — and the pair will share a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style relationship.
The previous installment of the franchise, GTA 5, is considered the second-best selling video game of all time with over 210 million copies sold worldwide.
More information on Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be shared “soon,” according to Rockstar Games. All there’s left for us to do now is wait and see!
