Key West has always been known for its spectacular sunsets, pastel-colored architecture and embracing the “island time” way of life. But as of this year, the southernmost point in the continental U.S. has a new bragging right: Michelin recognition!
For its 2026 selections, the Michelin Guide has expanded to cover the entire state of Florida and the Keys finds itself among the newly-recognized establishments. Two restaurants earned nods by the prestigious award, with Moondog Cafe & Bakery receiving a highly coveted Bib Gourmand. This distinction goes toward spots that offer quality food at a good value.
Tucked in Old Town Key West not far from the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Moondog Cafe is a colorful, bungalow-style cottage wrapped in a lush garden. It has built a loyal following for its scratch-made pastries and elevated comfort food catering for all diets, including vegans and vegetarians.
Customers often rave about their decadent “Moon Bombe” cake and fruit danishes for dessert, meanwhile the Moon Burger, fresh mahi tacos, and grilled vegetable charcuterie are standouts for lunch and dinner.
Why this local staple earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand
MIchelin Inspectors specifically pointed out Moondog’s daytime menus and bakery, with the fresh catch eggs Benedict with sliced avocado, grilled tomato and blackened fish topped with poached eggs and Hollandaise as highlights. But another reason visitors need to add it to their bucket list is the famous Key lime pie.
“Don’t leave without trying their exceptional Key lime pie, served simply with a snappy graham cracker crust, thin layer of dense, perfectly acidic custard and topped with torched meringue,” the guide reads.
Another Keys standout: Blue Heaven

While Moondog may have earned a Bib Gourmand, it isn’t the only Keys spot to catch inspectors’ eyes for 2026. Officially added as a Recommended Restaurant, Blue Heaven is already a legendary institution in the Keys. It’s steeped in local history, with the property previously hosting everything from cockfighting to boxing matches refereed by Ernest Hemingway.
Known for its funky outdoor courtyard, live music and Floridian-Caribbean cuisine, Blue Heaven is one of the island’s most celebrated mainstays. But due to its popularity, wait times can be quite long.
When it comes to food, you’ll want to order the Key West shrimp eggs Benedict or their own sky-high take on Key lime pie, per the guide. It features a towering cap of toasted meringue and a buttery graham cracker crust. Another breakfast favorite is their signature fluffy pecan pancakes studded with toasted nuts.
