The Florida Gators are your 2025 national champs! The team has won its first NCAA championship game in 18 years, beating the Houston Cougars 65-63 on Monday night.
The No. 1 seeds battled it out on the court at the Alamodome in San Antonio, in front of a crowd of more than 65,000. While Houston took the lead, most of the game was close until Florida was down in the double digits to start the second half. The team made a crucial comeback late in the second half to come out on top.
This marks Florida’s third national title in its history. Their back-to-back wins from 2006 and 2007 became the first time a team had achieved consecutive championships since Duke in 1991 and 1992.
The Gators secured their spot in the championship game with a 79-73 win over Auburn. Meanwhile, the Cougars had a 70-67 lead over Duke to advance to the title game.
You know what they say: it’s a great day to be a Florida Gator! Congrats to the University of Florida for this ultimate feat.
