Last week, Miami Beach staple Cheese Burger Baby announced it will close to make way for a new hotel, with its final day being Saturday, June 27.
An eviction notice asking the shop to vacate as the storefront strip converts into a seven-story hotel was posted to Instagram, with owner Stephanie Vitori writing, “The time has come. We will be packing up by day serving Miami 6pm–4am by night. Even though everything is shifting around us we will not leave you without CBB.”
“To my staff, past and present you are the backbone… To our community locals, tourists, night‑owls, industry fam, quiet celebs, chefs who showed love, athletes who fueled up after games and every person who ever stood in line for a burger… THANK YOU. You kept our reputation and legacy alive for 25 years,” the post continues.
Despite this, the brand reassured fans that its brick-and-mortar South Beach era is ending, but this is a transformation towards something new:
“Yes, change is here, but we are not going anywhere. Big news is coming, the kind that proves you cannot stop what we built. A new chapter is loading, and it is going to be more Miami than ever.”
After 25 years in business, Cheese Burger Baby is beloved for its late-night eats and has remained one of the best places to get a burger in the city since day one. On the menu, you’ll find juicy, well-seasoned Angus beef burgers like the Baby’s Favorite with applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg, and the Bacon Royale with two beef patties, bacon, cheddar cheese and the signature 1505 Sauce.
As a matter of fact, Beyoncé and Jay-Z are well known fans of the burger joint! While on tour in 2009, Beyoncé reportedly skipped sending an assistant and walked into the burger joint herself, ordering a sizable feast for her group that included a 6-pack of baby cheeseburgers, two regular hamburgers and two cheeseburgers.
Jay-Z also gave them a live shout-out on radio, claiming that Cheese Burger Baby is the one place he has to go to whenever he’s in the area.
Other famous clientele over the years have included Dwyane Wade, David Beckham, Anthony Bourdain, Guy Fieri and more.
The building at 1505 Washington Avenue, where the establishment resides, was purchased by Keyah Real Estate Group for $20 million, as reported by The Real Deal. Developers plan to demolish the existing structure for a new 238-room hotel designed by Arquitectonica. The property will feature restaurants on both the ground floor and rooftop, as well as a pool deck on the second floor.
Cheese Burger Baby will remain open from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. until June 27, and you can follow them on socials to stay up-to-date!
