The FIFA World Cup officially begins this week, and whether you’re in town for the tournament or already live here, Miami is the place to be!
In addition to the many watch parties, fan festivals and matchday specials happening throughout the city, Miami International Airport (MIA) is getting in on the global action by unveiling a new soccer-themed exhibit. Titled Beyond the Pitch: Artists in Their Field, it highlights the sport’s unique ability to bridge cultures, languages and generations.

Located at the Gate D31 Gallery, you’ll find a diverse array of artistic mediums — from paintings to photography, textiles, video art and even sculptural takes on the iconic soccer ball — by 14 different artists across South Florida. They include: Alissa Alfonso, Anastasia Samoylova, Annick Duvivier, Brian Reedy, Christina Pettersson, Claudio Marcotulli, Ernesto Kunde, Gianna DiBartolomeo, Kristen Thiele, Lili Cantero, Luis Valle, Marcus Rivero, Michelle Weinberg and R&R Studios.
“Thanks to the 14 talented local artists featured in this exhibition, travelers from around the world will also have the opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of our vibrant local arts community in the soccer capital of the United States,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a statement.
Each work explores themes of sportsmanship, unity, athleticism and the playful parallels between the arts and the world’s most popular sport.
Beyond the Pitch: Artists in Their Field is on display now through August 10 for ticketed passengers. Additionally, MIA is hosting GOOOAL! Kicking Off Creativity, a partner exhibition with artwork by Miami-Dade County public school students. The accompanying show is on display in The Children’s Gallery (Concourse D–E connector) through October 14.
