Miami is filled with delicious dining options, and chances are you’ve been hearing a lot about one particular spot lately: Sunny’s Steakhouse. The popular restaurant opened permanently in late 2024 by the makers of Jaguar Sun, Carey Hynes and Will Thompson. Having started as a pop-up during the pandemic, the chic steakhouse is tucked underneath a majestic banyan tree and known for its house-made pastas, raw bar selections, over 100 martini variations and, of course, steaks.
While it hasn’t been open for long, it has received numerous accolades, including a feature in the Michelin Guide. It was named America’s Best New Restaurant by Robb Report in June, and also included in Food & Wine’s Top 15 U.S. Restaurants for 2025, which named it a “wild circus of a new steakhouse.”
Most recently, Sunny’s was listed as one of 50 best restaurants in America by The New York Times, the only one in Florida to do so.

To compile the list, 14 of the Times’ editors and reporters took 76 flights to eat more than 200 meals across 33 states. They did this anonymously and paying their own way to get a true sense of the restaurant scene. The result isn’t just a list of places serving great food, but of restaurants that bring “a mastery of craft, but also a generosity of spirit and a singular point of view.”
The NYT was impressed by the eatery’s atmosphere, “superb” pasta and “spectacular” pollo a la brassa. And you’ll want to make sure you get the pineapple hot sauce with oysters and at least one crudo.
“The restaurant is, improbably, every bit as good as it looks. Yes, this modern steakhouse in the Little River section of Miami will satisfy your craving for Wagyu and foie gras,” Brett Anderson, one of the authors of the list, writes.
