What is ‘The Tarot Lounge’?
It is a 90-minute journey into the occult, led by three tarot readers who will not only delve into the history of tarot but also give group and individual card readings. It will be up to you, though, to ask the tarot deck for guidance and see what the cards say for you.
The experience will be enhanced by the esoteric décor, dim lighting and glowing candles. And, there will be refreshing tarot-themed cocktails prepared by professional bartenders available on the night.
Tarot and tarot cards
Tarot cards have a rich history, evolving from a simple card game to a useful tool for fortune-telling and self-discovery. Some believe their origins to trace back to the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt (1250-1517). Over time, they were brought to Europe and influenced by different cultures and social classes, eventually incorporating the suits: Wands, Swords, Cups and Coins.
While tarot was originally a fun pastime for the elite, the late 18th century saw a shift toward the occult, largely thanks to French clairvoyants and cartomancers. Jean-Baptiste Alliette (Etteilla) created the first Egyptian-inspired tarot deck explicitly for divination, whereas Marie Anne Lenormand was one of the first to tailor her readings to each individual and consider their personal circumstances. The Tarot Lounge continues this mystical tradition, where every card shuffle reveals concealed truths and wisdom.
The experience is designed to start out with a group reading. But if you are going alone, you’ll be paired up with other people at the entrance. You might even meet fellow tarot enthusiasts and make new friends along the way.
